SHILLONG, Sep 3: The National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) will undertake repair work on the Shillong-Umiam stretch in October.
The road has developed potholes over time and is deteriorating with each passing day.
An NHIDCL official said the repair work will begin in October immediately after the end of the monsoon.
The official said some stretches of the road were repaired earlier this year but the monsoon season caused fresh damage on the road.
Earlier, the government had planned an elevated four-lane road from Umiam up to Rilbong but later abandoned the idea, stating that the project was not feasible.
Instead, the government has decided to expand the existing Umiam-Shillong road to a width of 10 metres.
