India’s Legendary Physiotherapist Prof. Ali Irani takes Session at Royal Global University

Guwahati, Sept 5: The Assam Royal Global University today celebrated World Physiotherapy Day with an enlightening and eye-opening session by Prof. (Dr.) Ali Irani, Former Physiotherapist of the Indian Cricket Team and Head of the Department of Physiotherapy at Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital, Mumbai.

Delivering his lecture on the theme “Physiotherapy – Need of the Society”, Prof. (Dr.) Irani said, “Physiotherapy is no longer confined to post-injury care but has become a cornerstone of preventive health, rehabilitation, and overall well-being”. He elaborated on its crucial role in managing lifestyle disorders and chronic conditions, supporting athletes and promoting sports fitness, improving the quality of life for the elderly and the differently abled, and contributing to community health at large, according to a Press release.

During his session, Prof. (Dr.) Irani took the audience through the history and origin of physiotherapy, prenatal and postnatal care, sports rehabilitation, and geriatric physiotherapy. He also spoke about the introduction of the NCAHP Council in March 2025 and highlighted the significance of early morning routines in maintaining good health. Further, he underlined the role of physiotherapy in managing both natural and man-made disasters, as well as its relevance in strengthening the pelvic floor.

The session was further enriched with live demonstrations of techniques such as hamstring release and neck pain relief, which gave participants practical insights into the effectiveness of physiotherapy interventions.

Prof. (Dr.) Irani stressed the importance of awareness, skill-based training, and research in physiotherapy to meet the ever-evolving demands of society. His words deeply inspired students and young professionals to view physiotherapy not merely as a profession, but as a noble service to humanity.

Earlier, Prof. (Dr.) Abhijit Dutta, Dean of the Royal School of Medical and Allied Sciences (RSMAS), welcomed Prof. (Dr.) Irani and highlighted the growing relevance of physiotherapy in today’s healthcare landscape. The session saw enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members and concluded with an interactive discussion where Prof. (Dr.) Irani addressed questions and shared valuable insights from his extensive clinical and sports experience.
