SHILLONG, Sep 5: Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma on Saturday congratulated NIT Meghalaya, USTM and NEHU for their performance in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025, calling the results encouraging and a clear testimony to the dedication of these institutions.
He noted that the universities and institutes were growing in strength and striving to uphold academic excellence.
It may be mentioned that the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Meghalaya, which based in Shillong, secured the 83rd rank in the Engineering category, placing it among the top 100 engineering institutions in the country. Within the network of 31 National Institutes of Technology, it was ranked 19th.
On the other hand, the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) retained its position in the 151-200 band of top Indian universities, marking the fourth consecutive year it has featured in the national list.
USTM remains the first and only private university from the Northeast to achieve this distinction, a milestone the institution celebrated with a special programme on campus.
The Minister said the achievements reflected the collective efforts of Meghalaya’s academic institutions and sent out a strong message that higher education in the State was on a path of steady progress.
