SHILLONG, Sep 6: Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma on Friday convened a review meeting with legislators to assess the outcomes of the academic programme they attended at The Fletcher School, Tufts University, Boston, in 2024.
The exercise focused on constituency-specific development strategies prepared by the participating members.
Briefing the media persons after the session, Sangma explained that 18 legislators had travelled to Boston last year for the academic exchange, and this review was meant to evaluate the reports and action plans they had subsequently drawn up. He added that the discussion would also help prepare the next batch of lawmakers scheduled to visit the same institution later this year.
According to the Speaker, the MLAs presented detailed proposals addressing development priorities in their constituencies, and these documents would serve as valuable references for the upcoming delegation.
He noted that the programme was designed to provide legislators with a structured platform for academic dialogue and practical insights on policy-making.
Sangma pointed out that such initiatives allowed lawmakers to reflect on the challenges their constituencies faced, ranging from health and education to economic growth, while also helping them learn how to prioritise pressing issues.
He said that the training was not only educational but also yielded tangible benefits in equipping legislators with better tools to serve their people.
The Fletcher School at Tufts University, where the programme is hosted, is an internationally recognised graduate school of international affairs, offering specialised courses such as the Master of Global Business Administration (GBA) and the Master of International Business (MIB).
