Dhaka, Sep 6: Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed has set his sights firmly on lifting the Asia Cup title, declaring that the Tigers are heading into the continental showpiece with belief and momentum rather than simply to make up the numbers.
Taskin, speaking at an event on Friday, underlined the team’s ambitions. “Our expectation, the team’s expectation—our main goal is to be champions. We are not going just to participate; we are going with the aim of winning the title,” the 29-year-old speedster said with conviction.
Bangladesh’s confidence has been buoyed by a strong run of results in the shortest format, having won three consecutive T20I series against Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and the Netherlands. Taskin believes this run of form has instilled much-needed self-belief within the squad. “By the grace of Allah, we have won our last three series. That gives us a lot of confidence going into the Asia Cup,” he added. The right-arm quick has himself rediscovered rhythm with the ball. After a lean series against Sri Lanka, he roared back against Pakistan, collecting six wickets in two matches. (Agencies)
