TURA, Sep 7: Several persons who were involved in anti-social and other criminal activities were recently convicted by courts at Baghmara in South Garo Hills, after they were found guilty of their respective crimes.
Among those convicted included Daljitsing A Sangma, who was found guilty of committing offences of aggravated penetrative sexual assault and rape as defined and punishable U/S 375(a) falling under 375(sixthly)/376(2)(f)(n)/376(3) IPC R/W Sec 3(a)/5(1)(n) 6 POCSO Act, 2012. He was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for 20 years and a fine of Rs 50,000 was imposed on him.
Another accused Kensibirth G Marak was found guilty of committing offences defined and punishable by U/S 305 (a) BNS, and accordingly, the court convicted him to 1 year of simple imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 10,000.
The court also found three persons — Nazir Miah, Shuyal Miah and Faysal Miah — guilty of an offence punishable by U/S 14 A(b) Foreigners Act, 1946, for entering into the territory of India without valid documents. Accordingly, the three convicts were sentenced to imprisonment of 2 years along with a fine of Rs 20,000. Another Hafikul Islam was also sentenced to imprisonment for 2 years with fine of Rs 10,000 for entering Indian territory illegally.
