SHILLONG, Sep 11: Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the sensational murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, is likely to file a bail application before the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Sohra Sub-Division, on Friday.
A source on Thursday said Sonam’s lawyers will seek bail on the grounds that the charge sheet filed by the Meghalaya Police is incomplete.
“The bail petition will be filed due to the flawed charge sheet,” the source added.
Last week, the East Khasi Hills police had submitted a detailed charge sheet in the case. The report, running into 790 pages, names five principal accused and exposes what investigators described as a chilling conspiracy.
The chargesheet formally indicted Raja’s wife, Sonam, her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha, and three hired assailants — Vishal Singh Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi — under Sections 103(1), 238(a), and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
A supplementary charge sheet will be submitted against the three more co-accused after the additional forensic reports are out. He was referring to property dealer Silome James, Lokendra Tomar, the owner of the building where Sonam was hiding after committing the crime and the area’s security guard Balbir Ahirbar.
Meanwhile, Raja Raghuvanshi’s elder brother, Vipin arrived in Shillong on Thursday to obtain a copy of the charge sheet. “I came to collect the charge sheet but the officer told me to wait for a few days as hearing is going on. If possible I will go back with the charge sheet only,” Vipin said, while lauding the Meghalaya police for doing a good job in framing the charge sheet.
