TURA, Sep 12: Teachers of Deficit Pattern schools in Meghalaya have expressed appreciation to the government, especially Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, for fulfilling their long-pending demands and granting various allowances such as Hill Allowance, House Rent Allowance (10% of the basic), Medical Allowance, and Death-cum-Retirement Gratuity (DCRG).
A special felicitation programme was recently held by the teachers at the State Convention Centre in Shillong, attended by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma, along with other dignitaries and state officials.
“After 32 years of persistent efforts, the government finally granted these teachers various allowances, including Hill Allowance, House Rent (10% of basic pay), Medical Allowance, and Death-cum-Retirement Gratuity (DCRG). These benefits will be effective from June 1, 2025. The DCRG is a one-time payment after retirement, providing financial security to the teachers,” the teachers said, while lauding the government’s move.
According to the teachers, a total of 13 Deficit Pattern schools (9 secondary and 4 upper primary) will now benefit from these allowances.
“This achievement will be remembered for generations to come, and the teachers are grateful for the government’s initiative in making their dreams a reality. We thank the Honorable Chief Minister, Education Minister, and the entire government for their support,” Secretary of the teachers’ body, Lindias D Sangma, said.
