SHILLONG, Sept 14: Curtain came down on the joint military exercise between the Indian Army and the Royal Thai Army, ‘Exercise MAITREE-XIV’, during the closing ceremony held at JTN, Umroi, on Sunday.
The exercise, conducted under the United Nations (UN) mandate, aimed to achieve interoperability and familiarise both sides with operational procedures and combat drills.
It culminated in a 48-hour validation exercise featuring the creation of a Temporary Operating Base (TOB), establishment of an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) grid, isolation of a village, heliborne operations, raids and hostage rescue missions.
The exercise also highlighted the use of new-generation equipment by both armies.
The closing ceremony was marked by a solemn occasion to felicitate outstanding soldiers, alongside a cultural showcase of martial and traditional heritage.
To further strengthen camaraderie, both contingents engaged in friendly volleyball, basketball and tug-of-war matches, in addition to cultural programmes on the final day.
