DHAKA, Sep 16: Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Muhammad Yunus, has vowed to ensure no one faces discrimination based on religion, ideology, or economic status during a visit to the Dhakeswari National Temple.
Yunus emphasized that everyone is a citizen and that all rights are guaranteed in the constitution. He also expressed his desire for religious festivals to be free and not shielded by security forces.
Yunus visited the temple to discuss the preparations for the Durga Puja, the Hindu community’s biggest festival, which will be marked by a two-day national holiday.
However, he also noted that minorities have been excluded from meetings of his “national unity commission” and that a festive mood prevailed as Yunus visited the temple.
The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council has reported that religious minorities are facing escalating violence and systemic exclusion. (PTI)
