SHILLONG, Sep 18: The All India Trinamool Congress on Thursday reaffirmed its commitment to provide Meghalaya with a strong, responsible and people-centric Opposition.
“We reaffirm our commitment to giving the people of the state a strong, responsible and people-centric Opposition,” the party said in a statement on Thursday.
It is pertinent to note that the statement from the Trinamool Congress comes in the wake of party MLA from Nongthymmai, Charles Pyngrope, being recognised as the Opposition Chief Whip in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly with effect from September 15.
“This is a significant step in further consolidating our presence and strengthening our role in Meghalaya,” it said.
It may be mentioned that the post of the opposition chief whip felt vacant after lone Congress legislator Ronnie V Lyngdoh resigned and joined the NPP.
The Opposition bench in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly now comprises only the TMC and VPP legislators.
