KYIV, Sep 18: Poland’s defense chief visited Kyiv to seek Ukrainian assistance in developing his country’s drone warfare capabilities, just over a week after Russian drones entered Polish airspace and exposed NATO’s vulnerability to drone warfare.
Drones have become a central battlefield role in the past three years since Russia invaded Ukraine, transforming warfare.
Poland’s Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz announced an agreement concerning cooperation between defense ministries and acquiring capabilities for operating drones.
The Russian incursion last week heightened tensions in eastern Europe, and NATO has strengthened its defensive posture on its eastern flank bordering Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine.
Moscow’s conventional and nuclear military power in long-planned exercises with Belarus fueled Western concerns about Russia’s intentions.
