Guwahati, Sept 20: Assam government has announced the institution of a CID inquiry against North East Festival’s (Singapore) organiser Shyam Kanu Mahanta and the departed singer Zubin Garg’s manager Siddhartha Sharma.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma has informed media here that an FIR has been lodged against Shyam Kanu Mahanta and Siddhartha Sharma suspecting foul play in the death of the singer and hence the Assam DGP Harmeet Singh has been instructed to institute a CID inquiry against the two persons named in the FIR.
“Singapore police have already started an investigation into the singer’s unnatural death and have rounded up all 15 persons who were with Zubeen Garg in the yacht for questioning. We get it from Singapore police if there is any criminal angle to it. However, the Assam CID’s investigation will focus on developments before the singer’s departure to Singapore to take part in the North East Festival. We facilitate willing people to give witness accounts, if any, before the CID investigation team.” The chief minister said.
The Chief Minister said the persons based in Singapore who were with Zubeen Garg during his last hours would also be questioned during the CID investigation, if required. Referring to social media posts that some people in Singapore took Zubeen Garg for a party on Thursday night, the Chief Minister said it would be considered by the probe team.
