Shillong, Tura pay rich tributes to Zubeen Garg

SHILLONG/TURA, Sep 20: Rich tributes were paid to Assamese singer, songwriter and composer Zubeen Garg, who passed away in Singapore on Friday afternoon, as people in Shillong and Tura gathered to mourn the loss of the cultural icon of the Northeast.
In Shillong, the Shillong Socio-Cultural Assamese Students’ Association (SSASA), along with the Assamese community, organised a condolence meet at Asom Kristi Kendra, Dhankheti.
Members of the community, admirers and cultural enthusiasts attended the gathering to honour Garg’s unparalleled contribution to music, art and culture.
The meet began with floral tributes and prayers for the departed soul.
“Members present expressed their collective grief and solidarity, remembering Dr. Garg as not only a musical legend but also a true son of the soil who inspired generations,” a statement in this regard said.
In Tura, the Central Puja Committee (CPC), Garo Hills, organised a floral tribute at Parade Ground on Saturday evening.
Fans, well-wishers and music lovers came together to recall Garg’s timeless legacy.
During the gathering, CPC leaders described Garg as the everlasting voice of the Northeast, whose melodies will continue to inspire generations to come.
