SHILLONG, Sep 24: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) South Central East Circle and the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), Riwar Circle, recently detected non-tribal workers without valid documents who were employed under the Building Civil Sub-Division at Pynursla.
FKJGP Ri-War Circle president, Evanfield Khonglam on Tuesday said that these workers had obtained labour licences to work in Sohra “but surprisingly they were also able to come and work in Pynursla without proper documents.”
He said that the two organisations strongly condemned the negligence and lack of seriousness shown by the authorities concerned in the Pynursla Sub-Division.
Claiming that such incidents are not new or uncommon, he alleged that they have repeatedly witnessed these lapses due to the inefficiency of the government besides contractors taking undue advantage of the lapses. Khonglam said that the two organisations strongly warned that if such incidents continue to happen repeatedly, they will be compelled to take tougher measures.
The two organisations also reaffirmed their commitment to remain vigilant and to safeguard the security of the region and the entire state.
