SHILLONG, Sep 24: South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai, who was recently inducted in the state Cabinet, on Tuesday recalled the contributions of former MLAs and MDCs of the South Shillong constituency who, he said, had worked tirelessly for the development of the area.
Shullai, who was felicitated by the Laban Dorbar Shnong on assuming charge as Minister, paid tribute to former MLAs including Late PN Chaudhuri, Late Bhaskar Chaudhury, Late TH Rangad, Late DN Joshi, and Late Ardhendu Chaudhuri, as well as former MDCs. He urged people not to forget their legacy.
Speaking on developmental activities in the constituency, Shullai noted that the Cantonment area posed particular challenges.
“Sometimes it takes around 8–9 months for the Shillong Cantonment Board to even approve an application for changing CGI sheets,” the MLA remarked.
He also recalled the hardships faced by residents of Jhalupara, who in the past had to fetch water from the Umshyrpi river as early as 3 am. “But with the blessing of God, we got an independent line from PHE, and now people are enjoying maximum supply of water. There is no more scarcity in the area,” he said.
Shullai further thanked the Dorbar Shnongs of Greater Lumparing for donating land free of cost for developmental projects in the constituency.
