Nongpoh, Sep 25: A nine-year-old boy from Bir village in Ri-Bhoi escaped an alleged kidnapping attempt on Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred when the boy failed to return from collecting pig feed from a relative’s house.
The boy’s father and village leaders mobilised residents for a search operation.
During the search, the boy was found unconscious in a nearby forest on Wednesday evening with his body hidden among dried fallen leaves, with only a part of his face visible.
The boy was rushed to Umsning CHC for medical examination, where doctors found minor injuries on his legs, which the boy claimed were caused by the kidnappers’ assault.
The victim’s family lodged a formal complaint at Umsning Police Station, following which police launched a manhunt to trace those involved in the alleged kidnapping attempt.
