CAIRO, Sep 28: Over 66,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 168,000 wounded in Gaza since the Israel-Hamas war began, Gaza’s Health Ministry said Sunday.
The announcement comes as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu prepares to meet US President Donald Trump at the White House to discuss a possible ceasefire.
Trump has proposed a 21-point plan, reportedly including the release of all hostages within 48 hours and a phased Israeli withdrawal.
Hamas has said it is open to reviewing any proposal seriously, though no official offer has been received.
Netanyahu, facing mounting global pressure and boycotts, remains defiant, telling the UN that Israel “must finish the job” in Gaza.
Ceasefire talks have stalled, particularly after Israel’s controversial strike in Doha, targeting Hamas leadership.
Amid deteriorating ties, U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee will travel to Cairo for talks with Egyptian officials on ceasefire efforts.
Israel-Egypt relations have strained over Gaza displacement fears and military activity in the Sinai.
Meanwhile, heavy Israeli airstrikes continue in central Gaza, with residents reporting nonstop explosions.
The war has displaced 90% of Gaza’s population and pushed the region into a severe humanitarian and famine crisis. (AP)
