SHILLONG, Sep 28: Blending the revelry of freshers’ meet with awareness, an awareness-cum-freshers’ meet was organised by the Angami Students’ Union Shillong (ASUS) in a collaborative initiative aimed to sensitise students and the community about pressing health and social issues, including drug abuse, tuberculosis (TB), HIV, and AIDS.
Held in collaboration with the Naga Elders Forum Shillong, the Meghalaya Aids Control Society (MACS), NEIGRIHMS, the State Blood Transfusion Council Meghalaya, and Print Your Imagination with Perfection, the programme featured voluntary blood donation, screening for TB and other ailments, and the observance of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day.
Blood donors were felicitated by the Meghalaya Blood Transfusion Council for their selfless service.
Following the awareness programme, the ASUS hosted its much-anticipated Freshers’ Day celebration, which turned into a colourful and memorable occasion for students, community members, and well-wishers.
Khrielievi Chüsi, Deputy Chairperson of Kohima Municipal Council, graced the event as the chief guest.
Distinguished student leaders including Vimeyiekho Vitso, vice president of the Naga Students’ Federation, Nagaland, and Zhavito Rikha, vice president of the Angami Students’ Union, Nagaland, also attended the event.
One of the highlights of the day was the energetic performance by guest artist KL Pamei, whose music created a festive atmosphere and kept the audience engaged.
Adding to the cultural vibrancy, the Zhadima Village Youth and Sports Organisation enthralled the audience with traditional folk songs, which resonated deeply with the gathering. The event concluded on a spiritual note with a benediction prayer offered by Keduotseilie Üsou, followed by a fellowship lunch that brought everyone together in celebration.
