MAWKYRWAT, Oct 3: A government lower primary school at Nongrim Warding village under Mawsynram C&RD Block, East Khasi Hills, has reportedly been without teachers for four months following the demise of a teacher. The absence of teachers compelled the Managing Committee and the village authorities to appoint temporary teachers and pay their salaries, as the Education department failed to make timely appointments.
In this regard, the KSU, South West Khasi Hills, has expressed concern over the matter and criticised the irresponsibility of the Education department
Maintaining that the absence of teachers has hampered the functioning and performance of the school and compromised the quality of education for the students, KSU education secretary, Evansroy Nongrem, informed that the Nongrim Warding Government LP School, established in 1972, has been without teachers since the first week of June 2025, after the death of one teacher.
He added that the school currently has more than 50 students from Nongrim Warding village, which has a population of over 360 people.
Nongrem further said that, according to the Rangbah Shnong of Nongrim Warding, the Managing Committee and the village authorities had decided to appoint two teachers on a temporary basis and pay their salaries to ensure students’ education was not disrupted.
Nongrem also informed that the Rangbah Shnong had already taken up the issue with local MLA, Olansing Suin, but so far the government has taken no action.
