SHILLONG, Oct 4: A low-intensity earthquake shook parts of Meghalaya on Saturday morning, though officials confirmed there were no reports of damage or injury.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Guwahati, the quake measured 3.2 on the Richter scale and struck at 11:29 AM IST. The epicentre was pinpointed in Ri-Bhoi district at latitude 25.93°N and longitude 91.57°E, at a shallow depth of 5 kilometres.
Residents in nearby areas also experienced light tremors, but authorities stressed that the impact was minimal. They explained that the Northeast lies in a seismically sensitive zone and such mild earthquakes occur frequently.
