Tura, Oct 5: An arm wrestling tournament was held on Saturday, at the Ampati Indoor Stadium near Tura.
The event, organized by the South West Garo Hills District Arm Wrestling Association in collaboration with the District Sports Office, saw a total of 44 participants, comprising 34 male contestants and 10 female competitors.
Contestants competed in three weight categories for each group. The male categories were 55 kg and above, 75 kg and above, and 90 kg and above, while the female categories were 40 kg and above, 60 kg and above, and 80 kg and above.
Emphul Ch. Marak, District School Education Officer, attended the tournament as the Chief Guest and encouraged the competitors. He later presented certificates and prizes to the champions of the event.The tournament not only showcased the strength, skill, and determination of the participants but also highlighted the growing popularity of arm wrestling in the region. With enthusiastic support from the organizers, officials, and local sports authorities, events like these are playing a crucial role in promoting competitive sports at the grassroots level. The South West Garo Hills district Arm Wrestling Association expressed hope that such initiatives will inspire more young athletes to take up the sport and elevate its profile across Meghalaya.
