SHILLONG, Oct 6: Former Cabinet Minister Paul Lyngdoh is likely to be appointed Adviser to the Social Welfare Department, an official source said on Monday.
According to the source, the appointment is being considered in recognition of Lyngdoh’s contributions toward addressing the drug menace in Meghalaya and for leading the preparation of a visionary roadmap to combat the issue of substance abuse in the state.
The source also revealed that the former minister has received appreciation from the Centre for his proactive role in strengthening the Integrated Child Development Services programme.
The official added that Lyngdoh’s initiatives included seeking federal support to expand anganwadi centres, improving infrastructure, and addressing alleged financial irregularities within the system.
The source also informed that NPP MLA from Mendipathar, Marthon J. Sangma, who narrowly missed a Cabinet berth, is likely to be appointed Chairman of the Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), while former Cabinet Minister Shakliar Warjri is expected to be appointed Chairman of the Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC).
As per the source, former Cabinet Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh is unlikely to accept any government post at this stage. The official source said she would prefer to take up assignments related to Assembly Committees instead.
