Senior Haryana cop found dead
CHANDIGARH, Oct 7: Senior Haryana police officer Y Puran Kumar was found dead with a gunshot wound at his Chandigarh home on Tuesday, officials said. Police suspect that he committed suicide.The 2001 batch officer was the inspector general, Police Training Centre, in Sunaria, Rohtak.“At around 1.30 pm, we received information at Sector 11 police station. The SHO, Sector 11, and his team inspected the scene. A reported suicide had taken place… The body has been identified that of Y Puran Kumar, IPS officer,” Chandigarh Senior Superintendent of Police Kanwardeep Kaur told reporters.Asked if there was any suicide note, she said, “A team of the (Central Forensic Science Laboratory) is inspecting the spot and investigations are on.” Those present in the house at the time are being questioned, the SSP said. BSF seizes gold biscuits worth over ₹1 crore in West Bengal
MURSHIDABAD, Oct 7: Border Security Force has seized gold biscuits worth Rs 1.09 crore from near the Bangladesh border in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district.The 146 Battalion of the BSF deployed at the Charbhadra Forward Border Outpost in Murshidabad district along the India-Bangladesh international border seized eight gold biscuits on Monday night that had been concealed in a field near the border.The seized gold, weighing 832.550 gm, is valued at approximately Rs 1.09 crore in the international market, it said.During the search, BSF personnel spotted a patch of grass that appeared unusually piled up, and when the area was dug up, eight gold biscuits wrapped in red cloth were found hidden underneath, the statement added. Cancer patient kills 2 children, dies by suicide
DWARKA (Gujarat), Oct 7: A 40-year-old man battling cancer allegedly poisoned his two minor children to death before committing suicide in Gujarat’s Devbhumi Dwarka district.The man, Meraman Chetriya,decided to end his life as he was suffering from cancer for the last five years and was staring at his death. He was constantly worried about the future of his young children after his death, the police said.Chetariya poisoned his 5-year-old daughter and son, aged 3, before consuming the poisonous substance himself at his house in the village. His wife was away at work at that time. (PTI)
Heavy rain lashes Delhi, yellow and orange alerts issued
NEW DELHI, Oct 7: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow and orange alerts for the national capital, forecasting moderate rainfall accompanied by light thunderstorms and lightning.The weather department further said moderate thunderstorms with lightning, hail, and wind speeds ranging between 40-60 kmph are likely over parts of central, southwest, west, northwest and north Delhi.The Capital woke up to a wet Tuesday morning with the minimum temperature recorded at 21 degrees Celsius, 1.3 notches below normal.The weather office forecast light rain during the day due to the impact of a Western Disturbance affecting the region.
