New Delhi, Oct 10: Yashasvi Jaiswal’s extraordinary rise in Test cricket continued on Friday as the young Indian opener notched up his fifth score of 150 or more, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s tally for most 150-plus scores before turning 24 — and trailing only the legendary Don Bradman.
On the opening day of the second Test against the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, the 23-year-old southpaw produced a batting masterclass, finishing unbeaten on 173 to take India to a commanding 318 for two at stumps. It was an innings that blended precision, patience and power — hallmarks of a player well beyond his years.
In achieving his fifth 150-plus score in Tests, Jaiswal moved past Tendulkar (four) to claim the second spot in the all-time list for batters under 24, behind only Bradman, who managed eight such scores before reaching the age.
Still unbeaten on 173, Jaiswal will resume on Saturday eyeing yet another milestone — his Test best of 214 not out and, perhaps, his highest-ever first-class score of 265. Remarkably, the left-hander already owns five double hundreds in red-ball cricket, underlining his growing stature as India’s next great run-machine. (Agencies)
