Guwahati, Oct  11: Setting a unique example of service, compassion, and
environmental responsibility, the 62 nd birthday of Dr. Ashok Kumar Pansari, Chancellor of
The Assam Royal Global University (RGU) has been celebrated on Friday in a way that reflects
deep social commitment rather than traditional festivity.

There were no cakes, no sweets, and no ceremonial grandeur; instead, the day has been devoted entirely to giving back to society and nature.

To mark the occasion, Dr. Pansari led a plantation drive on the university campus, planting 62 saplings, symbolizing each year of his life dedicated to education, growth, and social
upliftment, according to a Press release.

The initiative aims to contribute to environmental sustainability and encourage
students and staff to maintain a lifelong relationship with nature. The plantation drive saw the active participation of faculty members, students, and staff, who pledged to nurture the
saplings and turn the RGU campus into a greener and cleaner ecosystem.

In addition to the plantation program, Dr. Pansari also donated 62 wheelchairs to physically
challenged individuals and organizations in need, reinforcing RGU’s commitment to
inclusivity and social welfare.

The recipients included individuals from underprivileged backgrounds as well as representatives from hospitals and charity organizations.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Pansari said, “Birthdays should not be about personal
celebrations alone, but about making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. I believe service to humanity and care for the environment are the highest forms of celebration.”

He expressed his gratitude to the RGU family for joining hands in the noble cause and
encouraged everyone present to carry forward the spirit of service in their lives.
Prof. Alak Kumar Buragohain, Vice Chancellor of RGU, lauded the humanitarian gesture of
the Chancellor and announced that this day will henceforth be observed as “Green Day” at
Royal Global University every year.

He said, “This initiative by Dr. Pansari is a torchbearer for all educational leaders. It reflects true leadership rooted in values, responsibility, and action. From today onwards, RGU will commemorate this day every year with activities that promote environmental conservation and community service.”
