SHILLONG, Oct 10: The Meghalaya State Information Commission (MSIC) has released two informative booklets aimed at enhancing awareness and understanding of the Right to Information (RTI) framework among public authorities and citizens alike.
The publications titled ‘Duties and Responsibilities of Public Information Officer (PIO)’ and ‘Duties and Responsibilities of the First Appellate Authority (FAA)’ were officially released by Chief Information Commissioner RV Suchiang and Information Commissioner Ripnar Lyngdoh during a function at the Office of the Meghalaya State Information Commission.
Speaking on the occasion, Suchiang said that the booklets are designed to serve as practical guides for officers and the public to ensure the effective implementation of the RTI Act, 2005.
She maintained that a better understanding of the roles of PIOs and FAAs would contribute significantly to transparency, accountability, and good governance.
On the other hand, Lyngdoh noted that the publications simplify the procedural and statutory aspects of the RTI process, making them accessible to officials at all levels of government as well as to citizens seeking information.
It may be mentioned that the booklets will be made available to all government departments, public authorities and other stakeholders, and will also be accessible through the official website of the Meghalaya State Information Commission.
