NONGPOH, Oct 12: The Ri-Bhoi Police on Sunday took Iainehskhem Kharsati, the prime accused in the alleged rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl, to the forested area of a village under Umiam Police Station where the crime was allegedly committed.
The exercise was carried out under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vivekanand Singh Rathore, along with senior officers of the district and personnel from the Meghalaya Forensic Crime Scene Unit.
The visit was part of an effort to reconstruct the sequence of events and collect additional forensic evidence to strengthen the case, the SSP said.
The accused was arrested early Saturday morning. The victim’s body was recovered on Friday night, following an intensive investigation launched by the district police after she was reported missing earlier in the day.
