Bodoland Territorial Council: 12 executive members sworn in

GUWAHATI, Oct. 14: Twelve executive members of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF)-led executive council of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) were sworn in at a ceremony in Kokrajhar on Tuesday.

The oath of office and secrecy was administered by additional chief secretary (welfare of Bodoland department and women and child development department) Mukesh Chandra Sahu.

In a first, two women, Moon Moon Brahma and Begum Akhtara Ahmed, were inducted to the executive council, a development marking inclusive representation in the governance of Bodoland Territorial Region.

The other executive members include Mritunjoy Narzary, Rabiram Narzary, Derhasat Basumatary, Prakash Basumatary, Paniram Brahma, Dhiraj Borgoyary, Augustus Tigga, Ganesh Kochary, Lwmsaro Daimary and Fresh Mushahari.

Five members of the executive council are from Kokrajhar district, two each belong to Chirang, Baksa and Udalguri districts, while one represents Tamulpur  district.

Notably, BPF had secured an absolute majority in the BTC elections, bagging 28 of the 40 council seats.

Earlier, BPF president Hagrama Mohilary had taken oath as the chief executive member (CEM) of BTC while Rihon Daimari was sworn in as the deputy CEM of BTC on October 5.

BTC chief Mohilary has been allocated key portfolios such as Public Works Department (PWD), Panchayat and Rural Development, Finance, Sports and Youth Welfare, Cultural Affairs, Tribal Affairs (WPT and BC), Implementation of Bodo Accord (IBA), General Administration (GDA), MCLAD and any other department not allocated to the executive members.

Attending the swearing-in ceremony as chief guest, Assam Cabinet minister Jayanta Malla Baruah said he was confident that, honouring their pledges, the newly sworn-in executive members would actively contribute to the comprehensive development and progress of the BTC region.
