SHILLONG, Oct 13: Youthful spirit combined with music filled Sacred Heart Theological College (SHTC) campus in Mawlai as over 2,500 young people from across Meghalaya and neighbouring regions gathered for the Sacred Heart Youth Fest 2025 (SHYF2025), celebrating faith, culture, and togetherness.
The day began with the Holy Eucharist presided over by Fr. Bivan Rodrigues Mukhim, Vice Provincial of the Salesian Province of Guwahati (ING). The festival was formally inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp, a Prayer Dance, and a welcome address by Fr. Sunil Barla SDB, Rector of SHTC. Traditional dances such as Wangala, Diengpasoh, and Mizo showcased the region’s vibrant heritage.
The afternoon’s cultural programme showcased a spectacular range of performances from various oratories and communities including Siejiong, Smit, Ummir, Nepali, Pynthorrit, Boro, Mawtawar, Mawkynroh, Mawkasiang, Mawpun, ANKCYAS, Mawsiatkhnam, Nongthymmai, Langkyrding, Santhali, Lankyrding Mihngi, Mathumthum, and Mawiong.
Each group brought their unique dance forms and songs, reflecting the region’s vibrant diversity and youthful energy. BJP legislator from Pynthorumkhrah AL Hek, who served as the chief guest of the programme, praised the youth for being “ambassadors of peace, faith, and culture.”
The event concluded with a tea and a joyful jam session by the Vendrame Festive Oratory, bringing to a close a memorable day of prayer, performance, and fellowship.
