SHILLONG, Oct 14: Meghalaya has earned national recognition as the best performing state in the verification of adult Aadhaar enrolments, marking a significant administrative milestone for the state.
The distinction was conferred during the Aadhaar Samvaad event, held at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC), Kothaguda, on September 29, to commemorate the inaugural Aadhaar Day.
Shai Kupar War, Aadhaar Nodal Officer from the General Administration Department (B), accepted the award on behalf of the state.
This recognition comes after Meghalaya implemented a verification reform in May 2023, which required all adult Aadhaar enrolment requests linked to the state to undergo verification — even when the applications originated from outside Meghalaya.
The reform was aimed at strengthening the credibility and accuracy of Aadhaar data while ensuring that every enrolment with a Meghalaya address was thoroughly validated.
Under the system, enrolment packets carrying a Meghalaya address are routed to their respective district and sub-district offices. There, designated officials verify them through the state’s digital portal, a process that has  improved efficiency, curtailed fraud, and reinforced citizen confidence in the Aadhaar framework.
The General Administration Department (B) has coordinated this exercise across districts, monitoring the process closely to ensure uniform implementation. The department’s consistent oversight and the collaboration of district teams have been crucial to Meghalaya’s success story in Aadhaar governance.
State Aadhaar Nodal Officer Joram Beda described the achievement as a reflection of teamwork across various administrative levels. He remarked that the coordinated efforts of DCs, BDOs, district supervisors, and operators, supported by GAD (B), had made this recognition possible. He also noted the valuable role of the UIDAI Regional Office, whose guidance and support strengthened Meghalaya’s verification drive.
Acknowledging the collective contribution of officials and field workers, the state government extended its appreciation to all who participated in the initiative that ultimately positioned Meghalaya among the country’s best in adult Aadhaar verification.
