Duo tries to rob 62-yr-old man in Laban, detained

SHILLONG, Oct 15: Two men were detained by police on Tuesday evening after they were caught and beaten by members of the public near Last Stop, Laban, while attempting to rob a 62-year-old man.
The two accused were identified as Kevin Tongwah (22) of Lumshyiap Shanmari and John Syiem (30) of Nongstoin, near the PWD Office, West Khasi Hills.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Vivek Syiem, informed that they tried to snatch a mobile phone and cash from Rahul Amin Haldar, a resident of Lumshatsngi locality. However, the 62 year old raised an alarm, drawing the attention of nearby pedestrians who intervened and rescued him from the assailants.
The SP said that the accused was using a Yamaha RX 135 motorcycle without a number plate (engine number 1L5L11807).
Police also recovered two helmets and a hammer from the scene, which have been seized. Both accused were taken to Shillong Civil Hospital for medical examination.
