SHILLONG, Oct 15: The State Cabinet on Wednesday approved the regularisation of cadres under the Meghalaya Nursing Service who were appointed to the posts of Staff Nurse and Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM).
This decision affects nearly 1,000 nurses who were appointed on an ad hoc basis against sanctioned posts prior to December 2007. Although these appointments were made against approved positions, they had not been regularised until now.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that a similar situation had arisen in 2022, when the government regularised over 3,000 employees who had also been appointed on an ad hoc basis against sanctioned posts. That decision, he explained, was guided by a Supreme Court ruling which allowed regularisation of employees appointed before 2008 under such conditions.
Following the same principles and rules applied during the 2022 regularisation process, the Cabinet has now extended the same benefit to nursing staff appointed before December 2007—ensuring parity and fairness in the treatment of all eligible employees.
