Maha min’s convoy drives on wrong side amid traffic jam

Thane, Oct 15: A video of Maharashtra Forest Minister Ganesh Naik’s convoy travelling on the wrong side of the road to avoid a massive traffic jam on Ghodbunder Road in Thane surfaced on social media, with commuters seeking to know if rules were meant to be followed only by common citizens. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning when Naik was heading to Palghar from Navi Mumbai for a meeting of the District Planning Committee (DPC). Naik is also the district guardian minister of Palghar. The BJP minister’s convoy with police escort took a U-turn to avoid the traffic jam, and started going on the wrong side of the road. Eyewitnesses and commuters were quick to capture videos and photos of the minister’s convoy driving on the wrong side. The video that has surfaced on social media shows the minister in his car. Angry citizens took to social media to express outrage, saying such instances expose the “two Indias on the same road – one for the powerful and one for the powerless”. (PTI)

Surgeon ‘kills’ dermatologist wife, arrested

Bengaluru, Oct 15: A surgeon has been arrested on the charges of killing his dermatologist wife with an overdose of anaesthesia in Bengaluru, police said on Wednesday. The incident was reported from the Marathahalli police station limits. The victim has been identified as Kruthika M. Reddy, a 29-year-old dermatologist. The accused was identified as her husband, a practising surgeon, Mahendra Reddy G.S. He was arrested on Tuesday in Udupi, within hours of the FIR being registered. (IANS)

Two held for stealing newborn from hospital

Kolkata, Oct 15: A woman and her daughter have been arrested for stealing a newborn from Burdwan Medical College and Hospital in West Bengal, police said on Wednesday. Rinki Khatun, alias Rumki Khatun and her mother, Minira Bibi, were arrested on Tuesday night. During preliminary investigation, it came to the fore that the incident occurred when the baby’s mother, Selefah Khatun, had brought him to the outdoor children’s ward for a doctor’s visit. (IANS)

Cops nab accused after 48 years for attempted murder

New Delhi, Oct 15: In a dramatic breakthrough, Mumbai’s Colaba Police have arrested a man who had been absconding for an astonishing 48 years, in connection with an attempted murder case dating back to 1977. The accused, identified as 71-year-old Chandrashekhar Madhukar Kalekar, was arrested from a residence in Dapoli, Ratnagiri district. He was 23 years old at the time of the alleged crime. According to the police, Kalekar had attacked his girlfriend with a knife in Colaba after suspecting her of being unfaithful. He was arrested then and later released on bail, but never appeared in court again. “After he was granted bail, he stopped attending court proceedings. Multiple warrants were issued against him over the years, and he was eventually declared a proclaimed offender,” said a senior officer from Colaba Police. “We had been searching for him for decades.” (IANS)
