Panel formed

The All India Lawyers Union (AILU) held a landmark State Convention at Anupchand Hindi Secondary School, Shillong, on October 11, to formally constitute the AILU Meghalaya State Committee. The convention was honoured by the presence of Mr. H. Debnath, Vice-President, and PV Surendranath, general secretary of the AILU National Council, whose participation underscored the significance of this organisational milestone. A 27-member state committee was unanimously formed, reflecting the collective will and unity of the legal fraternity in Meghalaya. Advocate F Qureshi was elected as president and Advocate Dr PC Neogi was elected as secretary of the newly constituted committee.

Workshop

The Department of Political Science and NSS, St. Mary’s College, Shillong, organised a one-day workshop on the theme ‘From Exploitation to Empowerment: Combating Human Trafficking Through Gender Justice and Women Empowerment’ organised on the college premises on Tuesday. The resource person of the session was Shima Modak, founder and president of SPARK, while the chief guest of the programme was Sr. Shemlang Mary Thangkhiew, Principal of the college. The workshop, coordinated by I Kharumnuid, sensitised students on the curse of human trafficking and role of various stakeholders in addressing the burning issues, that need to be dealt with from the grassroots levels.
