Top BSF official reviews border security during M’laya visit

SHILLONG, Oct 16: Special Director General of BSF (Eastern Command), Kolkata, Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, IPS, was on a four-day operational tour to BSF Frontier Meghalaya from 13 to 16 October 2025 to review the border security architecture and assess operational preparedness along the Indo-Bangladesh border.
Upon arrival, the SDG was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour and a warm welcome by IG BSF Meghalaya, OP Upadhyay, along with senior frontier officers.
The IG presented a comprehensive operational briefing, outlining the dynamic security scenario along the international border, including challenges posed by rugged terrain, cross-border smuggling, infiltration attempts, and emerging transnational threats. The IG also highlighted strategic countermeasures undertaken by BSF to strengthen border domination, upgrade technological surveillance systems, and enhance tactical mobility of troops.
During the visit, the SDG also toured several Border Outposts (BOPs), halted overnight with troops, and interacted with field commanders and jawans deployed in forward areas. He conducted Prahari Sammelan, commended the high morale and professionalism of BSF personnel, and emphasized the importance of vigilance, coordination, and combat readiness to ensure a seamless border grid.
Later, the SDG called on Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Chief Secretary Dr Shakil P Ahammed for in-depth deliberations on joint security mechanisms, intelligence sharing, and inter-agency synergy to ensure foolproof border management.
The SDG also visited the Frontier Headquarters campus.
