SHILLONG, Oct 18: In a disturbing development ahead of the Kali Puja festival, a heap of earth was dumped on the footpath in front of Matri Mandir at Polo, causing concern among devotees and the temple authorities.
Such disruption during fetsivities is being seen as completely unacceptable.
According to general secretary of the Central Puja Committee (CPC), AM Paul, the dumping was carried out by workers from the Telecom department, as reported by the Secretary of Matri Mandir.
The presence of the earth has created obstacles for devotees and organizers preparing for the imminent festivities.
The Central Puja Committee has called on local authorities to ensure that the area is cleared immediately so that preparations for Kali Puja can continue unhindered.
Temple officials have expressed their apprehension about the potential impact on the festival rituals and the inconvenience caused to devotees.
The incident has drawn attention to the need for coordination between government departments and religious committees, especially during significant cultural and religious events, to avoid unnecessary disruptions.
