Inflation eases for India’s rural, farm workers in September

NEW DELHI, Oct 18: India’s agricultural and rural labourers experienced a year-on-year inflation rate of -0.31% and -0.31% respectively in September, according to data from the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
The All-India Consumer Price Index for agricultural labourers decreased by 0.11 points to 136.23, while the index for rural labourers decreased by 0.18 points to 136.42.
The Food Index also decreased by 0.47 points for agricultural labourers and 0.58 points for rural labourers.
The Labour Bureau released the Consumer Price Index numbers for September, based on data from 787 sample villages across 34 states/UTs.
The revised series has enhanced scope and coverage, incorporating methodological changes to make the indices more robust.
The weighting diagrams have been revised due to changes in consumption patterns, and the Geometric Mean (GM) has been used to moderate price volatility.
India’s annual rate of inflation based on the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) eased to 0.13% in September from 0.52% in August.
The country’s inflation rate based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) has declined to an over eight-year low of 1.54% in September this year. (IANS)
