TURA, Oct 19: The 42nd Meghalaya State Table Tennis Championship 2025 drew to a spectacular close on Saturday evening, wrapping up four days of intense competition and sportsmanship at the Indoor Sports Hall, Tura.
Organised by the Tura Table Tennis Association (TTTA) under the aegis of the Meghalaya Table Tennis Association (MTTA), the championship brought together over 100 paddlers from across the state — including Shillong, Nongstoin, Jowai, Nongpoh, Baghmara, and the host town Tura.
The event not only showcaThis year marked the fifth time that Tura hosted the prestigious state-level tournament, reflecting the town’s growing importance as a hub for sporting excellence in the Garo Hills region.
The finals witnessed high-octane action as Tanushree Das Gupta captured the Women’s Singles Gold Medal with a dominant display, defeating Camelia Diengdoh, who took home the Silver. Anweshwa Chaudhary claimed the Bronze.In the Men’s Singles, Shillong’s top seed Suranjit Dey showcased his trademark precision and poise to successfully defend his state title, overcoming a spirited challenge from Sandeep Kumar, who settled for Silver. Pritvi Dey secured the Bronze Medal.
The tournament also shone a spotlight on Meghalaya’s next generation of paddlers. Saachi Mizar, the U-11 Girls Gold Medallist, was adjudged the Most Promising Girl Player, while Shivansh Pariyar, winner of the U-11 Boys Singles, received the Most Promising Boy Player Award — both hailed as bright prospects.
