SHILLONG, Oct 20: The Sirdar and Executive Dorbar of Shnat Hima Nongwah Mawtamur, Sohiong Lyngdohship, have clarified that the Hima has never sold any portion of its land to the Border Security Force (BSF), dismissing a circulating voice recording alleging such a transaction as “false and baseless.”
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Sirdar Estan Sing Jana said the Dorbar had, in fact, opposed attempts by certain individuals to sell Hima land to the BSF as early as May 24, 2019, by submitting an official letter to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
“We also filed a case against those individuals in court and obtained a stay order on September 4, 2019. The case is still pending before the District Council Court,” Jana informed.
Responding to the voice recording that has resurfaced across YouTube channels and social media platforms, the Sirdar said the audio has been circulating since 2022.
“We have been aware of it since then but chose not to comment earlier. There are always some disturbances in the functioning of the Hima, but we prefer to focus on our duties,” he said.
Jana further stated that anyone making such allegations should produce concrete documentary evidence showing that land was sold or that any agreement was signed between the Hima and the BSF.
“All these are baseless accusations and deliberate attempts to tarnish the image of the Hima and its leaders,” he asserted.
He added that the Hima would not engage in further arguments over the issue, saying, “Let them spread whatever they wish — perhaps it’s their way of seeking publicity or personal gain. We will continue to carry out our responsibilities towards the Hima.”
The Sirdar also urged those genuinely seeking the truth to verify the facts officially.
“If anyone believes that land was sold to the BSF, they can obtain the relevant documents and proof through the RTI from our office, the BSF office, the Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi District, or the KHADC,” Jana added.
