SHILLONG, Oct 20: SPARK, a Shillong-based social organisation, on Monday organised a programme to celebrate an eco-friendly Diwali with underprivileged children.
According to a statement here, the event encouraged the children to celebrate Diwali in an environmentally friendly way, using natural materials and traditional diyas.
The programme also featured lighting of lamps together. The children recited prayers for blessings and well-being before taking part in a series of fun-filled activities, including games, dance performances and creative sessions.
Children also showcased their creativity by making colourful rangolis and lighting diyas.
A total of 180 children participated in the celebration held at SPARK’s Bara Bazaar Slum and Rangmen centres.
“The smiles and laughter of the children made the program a resounding success, reminding us of the happiness we can bring into their lives,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, SPARK has expressed gratitude to all supporters and appealed for continued assistance in organising similar initiatives for children in need.
