SHILLONG, Oct 24: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui has urged teachers across Meghalaya to stay prepared for upcoming reforms in the education sector, reminding them of the Supreme Court directive that requires all teachers to clear the Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test (MTET), except those who have less than five years of service left.
Speaking at the Platinum Jubilee celebration of Pyndengumiong Government LP School in Mairang, Rymbui said the education landscape is evolving and teachers must adapt to changing standards to strengthen the quality of learning in government schools. “Reforms will come as time moves forward, and we must be ready. Teachers have to continuously prepare themselves to meet new requirements,” he said.
He commended the school for maintaining public confidence through consistent dedication from the village, managing committee, and teaching staff. He said the school’s achievement in sustaining enrolment reflects the power of community participation and shared responsibility.
Rymbui lauded the villagers and teachers for hiring additional teaching staff and paying their salaries through local contributions to ensure that the quality of education remains uncompromised. He said such initiatives set a positive example for other institutions struggling to restore credibility. “Schools can only grow stronger when the community, teachers, and managing committees work together,” he added.
