SHILLONG, Oct 24: Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita on Friday distributed appointment letters to newly inducted recruits under the 17th edition of Rozgar Mela at a ceremony held at the State Convention Centre here.
Altogether 58 candidates from the Northeast received the appointment letters. Sixteen of them will join the Department of Posts. NEEPCO will have three of them, CRPF two, Railways 27 and State Bank of India 10.
Similar Rozgar Mela events were organised simultaneously across the country as part of Centre’s nationwide employment initiative.
Speaking on the occasion, Margherita said the Rozgar Mela embodies Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s determination to empower India’s youth. He noted that since its launch on October 27, 2022, the initiative has transformed India’s employment landscape.
Across 16 editions, over 10 lakh appointment letters have been distributed, and in this 17th edition, more than 51,000 candidates across the country—including those in Shillong—received their appointments.
Margherita mentioned that a transformative employment and skill development initiative worth Rs 2 lakh crore has been announced for the next five years.
He emphasised that the potential of Indian youths shines globally and the same energy and promise were evident among the new recruits.
Citing the PM’s words that “youth is India’s growth engine,” Margherita urged the appointees to become the torchbearers of Viksit Bharat—a developed India.
“It fills me with immense pride and delight to be here once again. Just six months ago, I attended the 15th edition at this very venue, and it is heartening to see the same optimism in Meghalaya today,” he said.
“The government’s focus on employment generation and skill development has never been stronger. Initiatives such as the Employment-Linked Incentive Scheme, upgradation of Industrial Training Institutes, and new opportunities under the Skill India Mission are creating pathways for millions of young Indians,” he said.
He further noted that the Production-Linked Incentive Scheme alone generated over 11.5 lakh direct and indirect jobs, laying a robust foundation for India’s industrial growth and economic empowerment.
The programme began with opening remarks on video by Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Science & Technology; followed by a video address by the prime minister, who reiterated the government’s commitment to empowering youth through sustained employment and skill-based opportunities.
The event was also attended by Sanjiv Ranjan, Director of Posts; KVLN Murty, Chief Postmaster General (North East Circle); Maj Gen Rajesh Kumar Jha, Director (Personnel), NEEPCO; JN Tusing, Commandant, CRPF; and other senior government officials.
