KYIV, Oct 25: Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukraine have killed at least four people and wounded 20 people, prompting Ukraine’s president to call for Western air defense systems.
The attacks in Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions damaged apartment buildings and private homes.
Ukraine’s air force reported nine missiles and 62 drones launched by Russia, with four missiles and 50 drones intercepted. The Defence Ministry reported that 121 Ukrainian drones were shot down by Russia’s air defenses.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the need for Patriot defense systems to protect cities from such attacks. He urged the US to expand sanctions on Russian oil and long-range missiles to counter Russia.
Zelenskyy was in London for talks with European leaders to increase pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin and discuss ways to protect Ukraine’s power grid from drone and missile attacks.
Putin’s envoy for investment and economic cooperation, Kirill Dmitriev, believes Russia, the US, and Ukraine are “quite close to a diplomatic solution” to end the three-year war. (AP)
