New Delhi, Oct 26: The Australian women’s cricket team is confident that skipper Alyssa Healy will recover in time for their much-anticipated ICC Women’s World Cup semi-final against India on Thursday (October 30) in Navi Mumbai.
Healy, who sustained a calf injury, missed parts of Australia’s final league match, but head coach Shelley Nitschke remains optimistic about her captain’s availability for the knockout clash.
Australia sealed their place in the semi-finals after a convincing seven-wicket victory over South Africa in Indore on Saturday. The team now has a few extra days to regroup and give their captain sufficient time to recover ahead of the high-stakes encounter against the tournament hosts.
“She wasn’t quite up to it tonight, but she’ll continue to be assessed,” Nitschke told ICC. “We’re really hopeful for the semi, but there are still a few days to go before that. Hopefully, she’ll keep improving as we get closer to the game.”
Healy has been a key figure in Australia’s World Cup campaign, both as a leader and with the bat. Her match-winning 142-run knock against India in the league stage helped Australia chase down a daunting target of 331 with an over to spare. (Agencies)
