NONGPOH, Oct 26: Two days after launching a major enforcement drive to clear the Byrnihat–Jorabat stretch of National Highway-6 of illegally parked heavy vehicles, the Ri-Bhoi Police on Sunday morning shared visuals showing a significant improvement in traffic flow along the corridor. The police expressed optimism that the ongoing efforts are beginning to yield results.
In a message issued to the public, the police stated that the cooperation of residents and commuters will be crucial in ensuring that the progress achieved does not fade over time. “It’s heartening to see that our efforts are finally bearing fruits,” the message read.
Residents were urged to help monitor the highway and report any instances of illegal parking.
The appeal is part of a sustained strategy to address a long-standing problem that has caused frequent congestion and accidents along the busy inter-state route. The drive, led under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Vivekanand Singh Rathore, aims at ensuring that traffic movement remains uninterrupted for commuters, emergency services, and defense convoys.
The police reiterated that strict enforcement will continue over the next several days, with patrolling teams conducting regular checks along the corridor. Heavy vehicle drivers have also been cautioned against parking between the highway’s white lines, with fines set to increase for repeat violations.
