Four kids drown in Bihar, 3 in Jharkhand ahead of Chhath

BHAGALPUR/RANCHI, Oct 27: Four children drowned in the Ganges on Monday morning while taking bath ahead of Chhath festival in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district.
The children, had all been brought to the ghat by their family members,after they slipped into the river, divers managed to pull them out.“Police and administration officials had rushed to the spot.
The children were taken to a nearby hospital where they were declared as brought dead”, the SP said.All the deceased were in the age group of 10-15 years, the SP added.Meanwhile, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar issued a statement expressing grief over the incident. Meanwhile, Three children, including two girls, drowned while bathing in Jharkhand’s Hazaribag and Garhwa districts.Two girls drowned in a pond during Chhath Puja in Hazaribag, while a boy died the same way while bathing in Garhwa.
The toll due to drowning rose to nine in several incidents in the state since Sunday.Gungun Kumari (11) and Rupa Tiwari (12) drowned during the Chhath puja in Bela village on Sunday evening, police said.The bodies were sent for the post-mortem examination.
In Garhwa, 3-year-old Rahul Kumar drowned in the Danro river while taking a bath on Monday afternoon, police said. (PTI)
