NONGPOH, Oct 28: A 14-year-old boy from Quinine village reportedly ended his life by hanging himself in a forest near Umsaw Nongkharai village in Ri-Bhoi. His body was discovered on Tuesday morning by another boy who had gone to cut bamboo in the area. The deceased is said to have used a piece of cloth to hang himself from a tree.
According to sources, the boy had gone missing from his home since around 10 pm last night and did not return. Concerned family members searched for him but were unable to locate him. This morning, they filed a missing person complaint at Nongpoh Police Station.
While the villagers continued to search the nearby areas, the body was eventually found hanging from a tree inside the forest by a boy from the locality. Startled and frightened by the sight, he immediately alerted the villagers, who in turn informed the police.
A police team from Nongpoh, accompanied by members of the Forensic Crime Scene Unit, arrived at the spot to conduct an investigation.
The body was later retrieved and taken to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination. However, the family members reportedly refused the post-mortem as they did not suspect any foul play in the incident.
