SHILLONG, Oct 28: The High Court of Meghalaya on Tuesday disposed of a PIL since normalcy has been restored in the functioning of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council.
The PIL was filed before the court by Tokyo R. Marak seeking issuance of a writ or orders to direct the GHADC to resolve the pending situation, which had led to the indefinite strike by the non-gazetted staff of the Council, which as per the submissions and the reports had led to the total breakdown of the functioning of the GHADC.
“We have heard been informed that normalcy has been restored in the functioning of the district council,” the Division Bench comprising of Chief Justice Soumen Sen and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh said.
The counsel appearing on behalf of the president/secretary of the Non-Gazetted Employees Association submitted that they have assured that they will not disrupt the normal functioning of the council.
“In view thereof, the public interest litigation stands disposed of,” the court said.
