TURA, Oct 30: Social activist from South Garo Hills Greneth M Sangma has filed a police complaint against a contractor tasked with the construction of the Rangrachi Government Lower Primary School under NEC Scheme in South Garo Hills for abandoning the ongoing project and leaving it incomplete.
The construction of the said school building was allotted to one, Ruttilla R Marak.
Greneth, in his complaint to the South Garo Hills Superintendent of Police claimed that despite receiving the work order and funds, Marak failed to complete the project.
“The work order for the construction was issued to Smt. Ruttila R. Marak on October 31, 2022 with a scheduled completion date within 18 months. However, the project is still incomplete, with only 65% physical progress achieved. The School Managing Committee has lodged a complaint against the contractor for non-completion of work and causing immense hardship to students and teachers,” Greneth said.
Greneth went on to claim that a letter was issued to Marak by the Project Director of DRDA in South Garo Hills on February 20 this year, directing her to resume work and complete the project by March 2025.
However, Marak failed to comply as directed.
“The prolonged delay in the completion of the project has severely impacted the students and teachers of Rangrachi Government LP School, depriving them of essential facilities and hindering the quality of education. I urge you to take prompt action to address this issue and ensure the project’s timely completion. Action should also be initiated against the contractor for misappropriation and corruption,” Greneth said.
